We provide psychotherapy for adults, children, adolescents and families for all age ranges as follows:
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual Psychotherapy is provided one-on-one for 50 minute sessions on a weekly basis. Some clients wish to come less often, usually every other week, however we believe that weekly therapy is the most effective strategy so that momentum is not compromised and the therapeutic relationship with therapist progresses. You can speak directly with us about scheduling if have concerns or would like to discuss scheduling options.
Children’s Therapy
We see children ranging in age from 3 to 12 which covers a large developmental range. For younger children, play therapy is the optimal therapeutic choice and we have extensive background and training in this technique. For older children, talking therapy can be used, and sometimes a combination of play therapy and talking therapy is most helpful. We work closely with parents when seeing children as parents’ participation in the process is very important and necessary. In some cases, sessions with parents to work on parenting strategies is as important as sessions with children. Often joint session with parents and children are recommended. Each case is evaluated on an individual basis. We do recommend that our first session is with parents alone so that we can get a thorough understanding of the problems and issues of concern before we see the child.
Adolescent Psychotherapy
We provide psychotherapy with adolescents on an individual basis and conjointly with parents as needed. Adolescents to have confidentiality, however, we do work closely with parents and assist them in dealing with specific issues and problems. We do like to see parents alone for the first session in most cases to get some background and information about the issues of concern. Depending on the types of problems presented, we may also work with physicians, educators, or other adults involved with teens.
Couples/Marriage Counseling
We have experience working with couples of all kinds, and have expertise in dealing with the difficult aspects of blending histories, families, individual temperaments, communication styles, and the myriad problems that arise for couples.
